Lawsuit settled over Tuscaloosa jail inmate’s 2015 death

A lawsuit over the 2015 death of a Tuscaloosa County Jail inmate has been settled.

Phillip David Anderson, 49, had a duodenal ulcer that perforated and caused his death, according to a federal lawsuit filed in 2016 on behalf of his then 31-year-old son, Phillip Cordell Fikes. His family has said Anderson’s death could have been avoided if jail staff had provided him with medical attention.
